Grammar › Manner & Method
〜を通じて / 〜を通して — “through, by means of”
A channel or medium: 友人を通じて紹介された — I was introduced through a friend
Noun + を通じて or を通して marks the channel, intermediary, or medium through which something happens — a person, a period of time, or a means of communication. を通して leans slightly more concrete/physical (a window, a person acting directly), while を通じて is more common for abstract channels and time spans, though the two overlap heavily.
How to form it
| Pattern | Example |
|---|---|
| Noun + を通じて/を通して | 友人を通じて紹介された — was introduced through a friend |
| Time span + を通じて | 一年を通じて温暖だ — mild throughout the whole year |

Watch out
を通じて/を通して both need an intermediary noun (a person, medium, or span) — for a plain method with no intermediary (“by car,” “by hand”), で is the ordinary particle instead.
