〜によって / 〜により — “by, due to, depending on”
A flexible cause/means/variation marker: 人によって意見が違う — opinions differ depending on the person
Noun + によって (formal written: により) covers three closely related jobs: marking the agent in a passive sentence (“done by X”), a cause (“due to X”), or a source of variation (“varies depending on X”). Context decides which meaning applies.

Watch out
