通り(どおり) — “as, according to, just like”
Says something happened exactly as planned, said, or shown
Noun + 通り (or plain-form verb + 通り) says the result matches a plan, instruction, or prediction exactly — “just as X said/planned.” After some nouns the reading shifts to どおり (予定どおり); after a verb it's usually とおり.
How to form it
| Pattern | Example |
|---|---|
| Noun + 通り(どおり) | 予定どおりに進んでいます — It's proceeding as scheduled |
| Plain verb + とおり | 私が言ったとおりにやってください — Please do it just as I said |

Watch out
When 通り follows a noun directly, its reading often shifts to どおり (予定どおり, 計画どおり) rather than とおり — don't assume it's always とおり.
