で (de) — place of action and means

Where you do something, and what you do it with

で marks the stage where an action happens (レストランで食べる — eat at a restaurant) and the tool or means you use (箸で食べる — eat with chopsticks; バスで行く — go by bus). Action happens で, existence sits に — that contrast is the whole game.

How to form it

Watch out

「学校にいます」(I'm at school — existing) but 「学校で勉強します」(I study at school — doing). If the verb is ある/いる, use に; if something happens, use で.
