〜ところ — “just about to / in the middle of / just did”
Pinpointing a moment: 今、出かけるところです — I'm just about to head out
ところ pinpoints exactly where an action stands in time. The verb form controls the timing: dictionary form + ところ = about to start; 〜ている + ところ = in the middle of; た-form + ところ = just finished.
How to form it

Watch out
The three forms aren't interchangeable — swapping た-form ところ (just finished) for dictionary-form ところ (about to start) reverses the timing completely, so it's worth double-checking which verb form is attached.
