として — “as, in the capacity of”

States the role, position, or category something is acting or being treated in

Noun + として states the capacity, role, or category in which something acts or is treated — “as X, …” or “in the role of X”. It's common in job titles, official capacities, and statements about how something should be judged or categorized.

How to form it

Watch out

として names a role or category, not a method or tool — don't use it where で (using/by means of) is what you mean; ペンとして書く is wrong, ペンで書く (write with a pen) is correct.
