〜たり〜たり — “doing things like A and B”

JLPT N4 Connecting Ideas

A non-exhaustive list of activities: 見たり、食べたりする

〜たり〜たりする lists representative activities without implying they're the only ones or in any order — “I did things like watch movies and eat out”. Build it on the plain past + り, usually two examples, closing with する.

How to form it

PatternExample
Vた + り、Vた + り + する見る/食べる → 見たり食べたりする
Past: 〜たり〜たりした掃除したり洗濯したりしました — did things like clean and wash

Watch out

Unlike 〜て〜て (which lists actions in sequence), たり is a sample, order-free and non-exhaustive. Don't forget the closing する/した — the たり list can't stand without it.
