JLPT N4 Core Patterns

A is more than B:

To compare, mark the winner with のほうが and the loser with より: 電車のほうがバスより速い (the train is faster than the bus). For questions, use どちらのほうが (which is more…?). Order is flexible, and either half can be dropped once context is clear.

How to form it

PatternExample
AのほうがBより + adjective夏のほうが冬より好きです — I like summer more than winter

Watch out

For “the most” (superlative), switch to 一番 (いちばん): 一番好き = like (it) the most. And with どちら questions, you answer with のほうが, never より alone.
