〜たいです — “want to do”

JLPT N5 Verbs & Politeness

I want to eat / go / see: verb stem + たい

Verb stem + たい expresses your own wishes: 食べたい (want to eat), 行きたい (want to go). The result conjugates like an い-adjective: 行きたくない (don't want to go), 行きたかった (wanted to go). The object can take を or が — both are fine at this level.

How to form it

PatternExample
Verb stem + たいです日本へ行きたいです — I want to go to Japan
〜たくないです働きたくないです — I don't want to work
〜たかったです会いたかったです — I wanted to see you

Watch out

たい is for your own desires (or direct questions). For third parties, Japanese switches to 〜たがっています — but that's an N4 story; for now just avoid announcing what others “want”.
